Daylight loadable super8 - Convenient and sustainable.
The re8mil cartridge looks neat, constructed from resin and should have a great service life.
Super 8 seems to be undergoing somewhat of a resurgence lately, with even the likes of Kodak releasing a modern take on the Super 8 camera. Mind you, the Kodak is expensive and that’s the one main drawback of shooting film in this format. It’s pricey. But that isn’t the only issue, with the other being the generation of quite a lot of plastic that will undoubtedly lead to landfill, if not recycled properly.
But there might be a solution, thanks to the boffins at re8mil, who have come up with a reloadable film cartidge, which solves both problems. Firstly it enables you to buy bulk reels of film, which can save a heap of money, especially if you’re a regular shooter. Plus, part of their offering is that you can send back original magazines to be used again, saving them from landfill.
The reusable cartridge can be loaded in daylight.
Looking at their site, they are definitely trying to push users to send film to their lab for development but that’s fair and prices look pretty on point too, so that’s ok by me. What I am fond of is that the cartridge can be loaded in daylight, making one chore that much easier, and I’m all for quality of life improvements.
I haven’t been shooting much super 8 recently but plan to later in the year and I think I’ll be using the re8mil when I do.
